Trip Summary

Overview

Shaped around the contrasts between Reykjavik and Keflavik, this journey combines seamless private arrangements with a strong sense of place. In Reykjavik, private arrangements introduce the journey with depth while leaving room to experience the destination naturally. The journey may also draw on an additional privately arranged experience: Hear tales of Iceland’s elves and trolls and craft a personal mythical keepsake to take home. The journey can include joining a private guide on the Westman Islands to watch puffins dive and play up close. As the journey moves toward Keflavik, the balance of cultural discovery and time at leisure can evolve with the destination. The journey introduces an encounter with adorable Icelandic horses and marvel at majestic waterfalls and erupting geysers. Time can be left to soak in the soothing, mineral-rich waters of the Blue Lagoon—a perfect family retreat. Every element—from the choice of accommodations to the rhythm of each day—will be refined around how the traveler wishes to experience Keflavik.

Reykjavik

Discover a world of magic and fantasy, heading out from Reykjavik on a half day journey with a private vehicle and guide to uncover fascinating folk tales and witness the fabled terrain of elves, trolls, and other mystical beings that Icelanders hold dear. Transfer to Hafnarfjordur where your guide, a storyteller deeply connected to local folklore, will lead you through hidden corners and landmarks of this mystical town. Wander through Hellisgerdi Park and up to the fabled Hamarinn cliff, natural sanctuaries where the legendary Hidden Folk are said to have lived and thrived, hearing stories that blend the natural beauty with these magical beings. Continue to Afltanes where you'll dive into the world of Skrimsli - monster-like creatures born long ago in the land of ice and fire. In the days of old, people living in turf houses saw strange creatures in the flickering light of their oil lamps. In celebration of these tales, join a workshop where you'll be shown how to create your very own woolly Skrimsli, a plush souvenir to return home with. Afterward, you'll be treated to an ice cream creation of your dreams - making use of dazzling flavors to create your ice cream, like the werewolf of the black forest, unicorn, or bat, plus delicious toppings and sauces made in-house. It's a sweet and magical end to your day of adventure, concluding with a transfer back to Reykjavik.. As evening settles over Reykjavik, public swimming pools glow with steam and laughter, offering a welcoming glimpse into everyday Icelandic life. Geothermally heated waters make swimming inviting year-round, from long summer evenings to crisp winter nights. Children race down slides and splash in shallow pools while parents relax in outdoor hot tubs, where cool air meets soothing warmth. Laugardalslaug, the city’s largest pool, is especially popular with families thanks to its slides, play areas, and generous soaking pools. Sundholl Reykjavikur offers a historic setting with a relaxed, neighborhood feel, while smaller local pools provide a quieter, more intimate experience. Evenings bring a calmer rhythm, with space to enjoy the water, watch the steam rise, and share a simple ritual that sits at the heart of Reykjavik life.

Selfoss

Meet your private guide and vehicle, and set out on a full day tour to discover the natural beauty of the Westman Islands, a small group of islands located 6 miles off Iceland's south coast. Best known for being home to the world's largest puffin colony, and a historic 1973 volcanic eruption which evacuated the islands, there's no shortage of stunning scenery. An hour-long drive along the famed Ring Road through serene south coast landscapes will bring you to the Landeyjahofn ferry terminal, where you'll board a shared ferry for a transfer to Heimay, the largest of the Westman Islands. While here, your guide will bring you around to see the small village on the island, and set out to some of the more picturesque viewpoints. You'll join a group tour to head to Storhofdi, the windiest place in Europe, where you'll discover the island's rich puffin colonies (May to mid-August), admiring these slightly awkward little birds as they congregate playfully and swoop down to the Atlantic waters below. With the group, you'll also get to view the famous Elephant Rock, and even take a drive to the middle of the volcano where the historic 1973 eruption took place. You'll return to Selfoss at the end of your day via the ferry, and the Ring Road with your guide.
