Kigali’s vibrant streets and poignant history come together in a journey that immerses you in the heart and soul of Rwanda’s capital. Begin your day by visiting the city's lively market places to view and purchase some of the local products. Next, travel to a location stained with Rwanda's heartbreaking history, The Kigali Genocide Memorial Center. This tragic memorial was constructed in April 2004 to honor those who lost their lives during the Rwandan Genocide. The center was built on the site where an estimated 250 000 victims were buried. This location serves as a place where individuals can grieve the loss of their loved ones and to provide educational information regarding the genocide for the future generations. Rwandans believe that although the gruesomeness and painful emotions associated with this tragedy may be construed as negative, it is extremely important that the younger citizens of Rwanda fully understand the reasons and effects of such an event on a nation. The Center features three permanent exhibits which depict the events of 1994, as well as a children’s memorial showcasing the history of genocidal violence towards children from all over the world.. Enjoy a smooth private transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park. The approximate transfer time is three hours.

Volcanoes National Park
Experience a seamless journey in a private vehicle with an experienced guide.. Nestled in Rwanda’s Virunga Mountains, Volcanoes National Park is a breathtaking wilderness, home to the world’s last remaining 700 mountain gorillas. An enchanting encounter, this trek offers a rare glimpse into their natural habitat. Your journey begins with an early breakfast, followed by a scenic one-hour drive to the Park Headquarters, where expert guides provide a briefing on gorilla trekking etiquette. After the session, your guide will track the gorillas from their last known location the previous night. This skilled tracker will lead you into the forest on a moderate to strenuous trek, navigating steep, muddy terrain through dense rainforest at altitudes up to 7,500 feet, lasting 1 to 6 hours. Once found, all fatigue fades as you witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat—playful juveniles, watchful silverbacks, and nurturing mothers—a hidden world in the mist. This unique and intimate encounter lasts one unforgettable hour, giving you a rare glimpse into their world. Afterward, bid the gorillas farewell and journey back, carrying cherished memories. To protect the gorillas, strict regulations apply: only 8 visitors per group, a 23-feet distance. Permits must be paid in full at time of confirmation and are non-refundable.. Embark on the adventure of a lifetime with a gorilla trekking experience through the lush forests of Volcanoes National Park! The terrain can vary from well-marked paths to steep, muddy, and uneven trails, so a moderate to high level of fitness is essential for making the most of this thrilling experience. The exact trekking location is determined on the day of your excursion, meaning your trek could be a shorter, easier walk or a more physically demanding hike, but the reward of encountering these magnificent gorillas in their natural habitat is always worth the effort. To prepare, we recommend building stamina with regular walks, hikes, or stair climbing in the weeks leading up to your trip. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good traction are a must, as the trails can be slippery. Long pants, a lightweight long-sleeved shirt, and gardening gloves help protect against scratches and insect bites, while a waterproof jacket comes in handy for the Volcanoes National Park ever-changing weather. Leg gaiters are recommended to keep mud and debris out of your boots—some lodges provide them, but having your own ensures you're prepared for all hikes. Pack a small daypack with essentials like water, energy snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a waterproof cover for your gear. For the best viewing experience, bring a pair of binoculars to enhance your chances of spotting gorillas and other incredible wildlife. If you’re bringing a camera, a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens is ideal for capturing moments in the dimly lit rainforest while keeping a comfortable distance from the gorillas. Hiring a porter is highly recommended—they’ll assist with carrying your bag and provide support on the more challenging sections of the trail. If you have any health or mobility concerns or would like to arrange a porter in advance, your Destination Expert is happy to assist. To ensure the health of the gorillas, all trekkers must be in good health—anyone showing flu-like symptoms will not be permitted to participate, as these primates are highly susceptible to human illnesses. When in close proximity to the gorillas, wearing a face mask is mandatory to minimize any risk of disease transmission and help protect these amazing creatures. With the right preparation and a sense of adventure, you’ll be embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime experience, witnessing these incredible gorillas in one of the most breathtaking and remote locations on Earth, while contributing to their conservation for future generations!

Cape Town
Beat the crowds and start the day early with your private guide by visiting Cape Town’s most iconic landmark, Table Mountain. One of the most spectacularly bio-diverse places on Earth, an estimated 1,500 unique species of plant-life are found on Table Mountain alone, many of which are endemic and found nowhere else on the planet. Ascend by cable car as the mist from the clouds open up to the main plateau while striking views of Cape Town come into crystal-clear focus. Now with a better understanding of the city’s layout, walk past Cape Town’s storied past as your guide recounts the colorful histories of the Houses of Parliament, the Castle of Good Hope (South Africa’s oldest building) and the well-tended Company Gardens. Bargain your way through the lively Greenmarket Square in search of souvenir while meeting local artisans along the way. As you enter another one of Cape Town’s famed stop at Bo-Kaap, learn how the Cape Malay community, with its cobbled streets and brightly colored houses became one of city’ most vibrant neighborhoods. There’s no better way of understanding local history than through your Capetonian guide. From here you have the choice of being dropped off at the V&A Waterfront to experience this landmark at your own pace, with its many shops, restaurants and pubs - or at your hotel to end the tour. Should you choose to visit the waterfront, please speak to your Destination Expert for a range of recommendations for lunch.. To fully understand and appreciate the history of Cape Town – and more broadly, of South Africa – one must visit Robben Island, the infamous island prison off the coast of the city. For centuries the island was used to isolate prisoners, mainly those with alternative political leanings, from the mainland and therefore from political discourse. Notoriously, former South African President Nelson Mandela was incarcerated on the island for 18 of the 27 years he spent in prison. After boarding a ferry to reach the island, you will be met by a local guide – usually a former inmate of the island during the apartheid era – to participate on a shared outing where you will learn deeply moving and at times personal accounts of times past. Please note: Ferries depart at 9am & 1pm, weather permitting, from Nelson Mandela Gateway along the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The standard tour to Robben Island is three hours and 30 minutes long, including the two, half-hour ferry transfers.

Cape Town
After meeting your expert local guide in Cape Town, begin the day with a visit to one of the more popular leisure hubs for locals – the glorious beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay, where impressive white sand beaches hug the shoreline with the Twelve Apostles as a stunning backdrop. Learn about the fascinating history of this breathtaking land from your Capetonian guide as you begin the spectacular sea-side drive to the quaint village of Hout Bay. After a stop in the village, you will track along the extraordinary Chapman’s Peak Drive, known as one of the most picturesque roadways world-wide. With the flexibility to spend as little or as long as you would like in this region crammed with incredible panoramic lookouts, the benefits of having a private vehicle and guide truly come into play. Further along you will reach the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve where, at Cape Point, you will board a funicular or walk up the stairway that leads to the Cape Point Lighthouse; it is here that you will observe dramatic coastal scenery and fantastic views of False Bay. Departing from Cape Point, head northward to Simon’s Town to enjoy lunch (included). Although the city is host to a number of tasty dining options, consider indulging in fresh-caught fish & chips, the town’s specialty. After a refreshing lunch and a bit of time to learn about Simon’s Town, set off with your camera ready to visit Boulders Beach, a nearby nature preserve that is home to a colony of African penguins. Wrapping up your day’s adventure, tour the idyllic Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a sprawling park brimming with rare and exotic plant-life that is surely one the finest examples of botany the world over, before being returned to your hotel.
